Sound plan!

Sound plan!

Performance scene-

In this scene we will just have the track playing with no additional sounds.

Narrative scene-

For these scenes we will have the track playing with underlining sounds from the environment to create realism.

Lighting Plan!

Lighting plan!

Performance scene-
Dark background
Dim backlighting
All the light’s are behind performers
Close up of performers will have soft lighting to bring out there features
Singer shall have majority of screen time so will have the soft light closest to him.

Narrative-
for the majority we will use natural light to create a effect of realism. However in the walking towards town shot we will use camera/phone light to aid the natural light.

Just a thought.

For my music video it will be clear to see that it is of the indie genre however i think by having a naartaive this restricts that genre. So the performance aspect of my video needs to occur more than once. In my video i want a mix of performance and narrative so that i modernise the original indie genre and keep the basic foundations of it intact. Allthough in indie music videos there is either performance or narrative i feel mixing them will keep it at a suitable modern level.

These photos show how arctic monkeys have used both Performance and narrative in differnt music videos.

First paragraph of my music video.

We start with 27 second introduction for this i thought we could have a performance. this fits in with indie genre which focuses alot on having performances in there videos. For this i will have a back light to make the performers  look like silhouette's. It will be constructed in a music studio so the acoustics within the room have an effect on the video.

Next we have the line 'Stop making the eyes at me, I'll stop making the eyes at you' for this line we will have 'alex turner' shaving/ getting ready for work and looking into the mirror when he glances up to the mirror again there will be a reflection of the girl he is thinking about.

Secondly we have the line 'And your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night)' for this we will have 'Alex Turner' dressing a shirt. he will have the shirt on by the line 'Oh but you're an explosion (your dynamite)' and at this point there will be a explosion created by green/blue screen.

My Song!

For the main coursework i have chosen to do 'I Bet you look good on the dance floor' By Arctic Monkeys. The song was released in their debut album ' Whatever People Say I Am, That's what I'm not' the music video is a live recording of the band playing the song in a studio. The video was shot using television cameras from the 1970s to give it a more aged effect.

I have chosen this song because I believe it can be completed at a high level and being an indie genre there is a low budget (student like). Also it has no video (apart from a performance) which means that we can do what we want with it and not be influenced by previous videos.

Urban tribes

Urban tribes was a phrase firts introduced by Maffesoli  in his book Le Temps des Tribus in 1988. Basically it ment small groups of people formed social groups around what they and the collective group liked and enjoyed to do. E.g. a sports group would be a group of people who all played and enjoyed sport.

In class today we found out our 'tribe' by using a website called http://www.uktribes.com/ it gave us a list of possible tribes. Sadly i fitted non of them (social outcast) so i had to place my self within and group that seemed to fit me the best. According to uk tribes im alternative which is agroup fild with serveral sub-groups
  • Gamers
  • Emos
  • Scene Kids
  • Skaters
  • Metalheads
  • Young Alts
  • To be honest i only match to alternative as a whole not any of the sub groups anyway it say:
" Possessing an alternative taste in music and fashion no longer automatically denotes outsider status. Instead, this segment makes up a significant slice of the youth market, with the internet helping to smash the barriers to the Alternative lifestyle. An enthusiasm for indie fashion and band culture is now almost obligatory in the development of middle class teens".
Therfore the music consumpton of my group i believe to be fairly high but perhaps differnt to others.

The song i have chose "I bet you look good on the dancefloor" would probably fall under the group of Leading edge which is "Leading Edge tribes are the smallest segment in the youth market. However, they drive taste across virtually all other sectors, impacting on the listening habits and fashions of everyone from rural teenage Emos to the stars of US hip hop. These tribes stand at the gateway of popular culture, and are the main influence over other Tribes like the Young Alts. However, all of these Leading Edge Tribes are hard to manipulate"  this shows that the Artci Monkeys and bands of that genre would be small in comparision to other larger social groups.

    Potential Treatment.

    I have decided to not go with any of my previewed song choices but instead to choose "I bet you look good on the dancefloor" by the irresistable Arctic Monkeys. You might be saying to yourself huh but thats so differnt. I would agree but i have decided to do this because i think it will be a much better piece of work for many reasons;

    1. Cost being an indie film little or no props required, no huge set design, no hiring of dancers, simple costume, simple effects needed.
    2. Problems with other songs: first rizzle kicks this song appeals to a certain target audience which means it will be alot harder to appeal to the wider market. Michael Buble simply the cost needed for fancy locations and props was to high. Also if we did them badly i feel it would be an injustice to the originals.

Here is the original version of "i bet you look good on the dancefloor" by rizzle kicks

As you can see on a performance video. I have decided straight away that to really broadcast the indie genre i feel it needs to have a performance aspect. Now for the treatment, first the long intro 27 seconds i believe i figued i could start with a heart performance chunk here to really get the avid indie fans engulfed. next i thought we could intertwine a narrative off a man imagining his 'bird' on the dance floor and what she'll be doing and behaving. Also to really advertise to a wider target audience i thought lets put in some aspects of modern mainstream music. E.g. im going to use some green screen to add some impossible effects.

    Possible song tracks

    1. Rizzle kicks Chatter

Why? well first simply i like the song also it has a simple selection of lyrics which can be easily looked into. Next the mise-en-scen for a song like this is very simple and therefore not expensive to buy or arrange. Next by having this genre of song it can be related to a large target audience.

    2. Yes i know what your thinking its a cover well shhh i prefer this version anyway why this song? Well i think the class of this song can really be portrayed by a simple and effective video. Furthermore because it has no video (only performance) you really can have a free reign over its design.

    3. I thought of this song basically becasue i think you can really do alot with it. Firstly the original is so simple and unimaginative you really can do alot with it. Next it will have a very large target audience so it can be more succesful and even slightly safe.

All of these song have been put forward as ideas for my final piece becasue i think they are possible to make and do well they are all differnt genre which tells you im comfortable with what choice i make.

    Frame by frame remake evaluation.

In this task we created a remake of Ed Sheeran Lego House. This was a practise task to get used to filming a music video, what it intales and some good music video techniques.

    Good:
We found suitable locations that were similar to the ones used in the original music video. Next our shooting plan was correct and stayed near enough corret. Furthermore we had the right mise-en-scen to complete this task.

    Bad:
The editing was below par and slightly rush. Also some of the lip syncing was off because i sang quicker that the song itself. Next there was not enough of the song done we only complete around half in the time provided

    Next time:
Next time i will focus on lip synicing to make sure it was easily editable and useable. Also i would have better time management so i can edit with no rushing so its completed to a higher standard.
